My lilac tree is dying - should I cut it down when winter is over?

Right now remove 1/3 of the oldest canes to the ground and give the tree a nutrient balanced fertilizer. You may be able to save it. Good luck!

Reply:Lilacs live a very long time. What it the problem with this one? They need a winter to rest up. Maybe you don%26#039;t have the right cultural requirements there and you should get rid of it. Lilacs will grow back from the roots readily though. It may take some time to be truly rid of it.
Reply:may not be dying might need pruning back scratch a place on a limb to see if its still green keep scratching till you find a place where the plant is still alive and thats where it should be pruned back to from a nursery woman in tennessee
