My lilac bush never blooms?

it is about 4yrs. old, it doesn%26#039;t get much sun, is that why?

My lilac bush never blooms?
The comments everyone made here are good and valid, particularly about giving it sun....however, I do have two lilacs in the shade and I have had better luck with them blooming than the ones in the sun -- and they are younger trees.

While you can move it, bear in mind it will then take another year or two before it blooms, as you will stress the tree, damage roots, and have to prune anyway after moving.

The deer do a lot of my pruning, so if this might be your problem, put some deer netting around it, or barring that, hang some old CDs and sprinkle the tree with cayenne pepper on a regular basis.

Lilacs should be fed in spring, and should have well-drained soil. So, when you feed next spring (and don%26#039;t be surprised to find your first bloom), work the food into the ground with a claw or pitchfork from the perimeter of branches toward trunk.

And then, there are just going to be those years where factors were poor for budding to take place, or the buds die and fall off.
Reply:Do you prune your lilac? Shortly after the shrub flowers it sets the new flower buds for the next year. If you prune it at all after spring when they flower you are cutting off all flower buds for the next year. Hope this helps, good luck
Reply:Lilacs like partial shade to full sun. Mine are under the full trees, but get 1/2 day of sun. They are profuse bloomers in the Spring. You can move it.

Reply:What part of the country do you live in, lilacs have to freeze to be able to bloom...that%26#039;s the only thing I can think of.
